Ajmal wants a crack at India

DHAKA: Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal has promised to produce a match-winning performance against India if given a chance to feature in their semifinal in Mohali on March 30.
Ajmal, 33, replaced left-arm spinner Abdur Rehman in the quarterfinal against West Indies here on Wednesday and justified his selection with figures of 2-18 in Pakistan’s emphatic 10-wicket win.
He is now hoping to retain his place in the playing-eleven for the mouth-watering clash against India.
“It’s a big match and hopefully I’ll get to play in it,” he said.
“I want to give my best for Pakistan against India and help win it. I want to be the man-of-the-match,” added Ajmal, who has taken 47 wickets from 37 One-day International appearances.
The Mohali clash is expected to be a high-voltage encounter but Ajmal said that there won’t be any pressure on him.
“I won’t take any pressure. I have played against India two times in the past and know what to expect against them,” said Ajmal who took 1-47 in Pakistan’s Asia Cup match against India in Karachi in 2008 and then finished with 2-31 in Centurion against them in the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy.
Sources in the team management told ‘The News’ that a decision on whether to retain Ajmal in the playing eleven for the semifinal will be taken after the captain, coach and other officials take a look at the playing conditions there.
